How good is Bicol Express? How yummy is Gising Gising? How about combining the two? Oh yes, it’s Bicol Express Gising Gising! And it’s soooooooooo freakin’ good!!
Panlasang Pinoy has always been a constant inspo for Filipino recipes. I don’t think I’ve ever considered any of the recipes I followed from his site as a failure. This one is definitely one of my faves. Considering the similarities of the ingredients between Bicol Express and Gising Gising, it made perfect sense to mash them up.
Bicol Express Gising Gising
- 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/2 Kilo pork belly chopped
- 1 Piece onion minced
- 2 Thumbs ginger sliced thinly
- 6 Cloves garlic minced
- 10 Pieces bird’s eye chilies chopped
- 4 Tbsp shrimp paste
- 4 Cups coconut milk
- 1 Piece pork cube
- 400 Grams green beans chopped
- Black pepper to taste
In a wok, heat oil over medium heat.
Add pork belly and cook until oil comes out of the pork fat.
Add onion, ginger, garlic and bird’s eye chilies. Saute until onion is translucent.
Add shrimp paste and sauté for another 2 minutes.
Add coconut milk and let boil.
Add pork cube and stir ingredients together. Lower heat and simmer for 30-40 minutes (or until meat is tender).
Add green beans and cook for another 5 minutes. Season with black pepper. Stir.
Serve and enjoy!
