I feel so productive today as I learned a lot of things about Essential Oils! So happy that my dear friend (twin) invited me to attend workshops held at the Honest Harvest Bazaar at the Podium. If not for her, I wouldn’t have felt a little bit confident in entering the Essential Oils world. There were 2 workshops I attended at the Honest Harvest Bazaar. First one was Introduction to Essential Oils Workshop by doTERRa.
Since I signed up at doTERRA, it just makes sense for me to attend its introductory course. And I’m just so glad I did! I learned so much in the 1-hour session. For an essential oils newbie like me, this is invaluable! Let me share what I learned from the workshop earlier today:
doTERRA is a U.S. brand focusing on natural solutions in taking care of our family’s health through the use of its essential oils. The oils sold by doTERRA are either single oils (per plant) or blends.
There are three ways to apply essential oils:
- aromatic – lightens up mood
- There are two types of diffusers:
- water diffuser – Since some of us use air conditioners everyday, it is good to know aircon is drying. That’s why water diffuser is useful.
- nebulizer – very strong diffuser and uses pure essential oils. That’s why the way this works is that it diffuses for one minute, then stops diffusing on the next minute and so on.
- There are two types of diffusers:
- topical
- In diluting, use Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO) especially if you have sensitive skin. The reason why we use FCO is because it envelops the essential oil.
- internal use – not all essential oils (EOs) are used internally. If there’s a word “supplement” in the EO bottle, we can ingest the EO.
- It’s highly advisable to dilute the EO with water or Fractionated Coconut Oil when ingesting EO.
- Eucalyptus is dangerous to ingest.
In storing essential oils, it is advisable to place in glass bottles and specifically in amber color. Why? So that no light can enter. To store your blends and single oils, use a wooden box to keep them safe.
I learned more about some oils and recipes at the Essential Oils workshop too!
- Lavender – calming effect
- Peppermint – cooling effect, opens up airwaves
- deep blue – muscle relaxant
- marjoram – treating stressed nerve
- oregano – antibiotic, very hot oil (best to put one drop of EO inside an empty capsule)
- lavender & balance – for sleeping (lavender only for kids)
- lavender with FCO – treat eczema
- 2 drops breathe + 2 drops lavender for diffusing – to lessen snoring, diffuse for 4 hours
Apart from all of those tips, participants of the workshop even got free blends! I got the calming blend composed of lavender, balance & FCO. One last tip on this is to roll the bottle with our hands in order to mix the oils in the roller bottle.
Thanks doTERRA for a great learning experience! Thanks Cindy for providing us so many tips! I gained knowledge on essential oils and I’m a bit confident now in opening my doTERRA kit and start blending oils!

I am interested in knowing more of essential oils, with tons of info sometimes it could get overwhelming. Most of what I found is outside PH and would like to get sarted locally if there is a workshop I’d like to attend. Btw, great read and thanks for sharing I picked up a thing or two there.

Hello! Doterra & Young Living both have lots of workshops being setup all over the metro. You can choose to join both and decide which brand to buy. I’ve learned a lot by joining those workshops and I have posted lessons on this blog for my reference 🙂
