Been hearing about Marriage Story from friends so I decided to watch it on Netflix. Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson is a bit of an unlikely pairing but both of them are great actors. So I was excited to check the movie out!
Marriage Story is about a couple who are going through a grueling divorce and how they went through the change in their lives. A stage director and an actor wife who spent most of their lives together even in their careers and having to go through the difficult process of divorce definitely pushes them to their personal limits.
Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson are an odd pairing but their acting was so good that it became convincing! I mean how can that be? Adam was great in Marriage Story but I must say Scarlett Johansson is a gem of an actress. She can act, like for real! And her performance was so natural and you can feel every bit of her emotion in the scenes. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m a woman or if it’s Scarlett’s acting but I resonated with her side of the story in Marriage Story.
As I always say, I appreciate when movies touch on the reality of life. And this time, the movie highlighted the relationship of a married couple. The real struggles that they had and how they were able to grow apart through the years despite having a child of their own. I love that the movie gave us such important lessons in handling relationships. If I look at it, their marriage can be saved if only they focused on communication when the hurt started to happen.
When life becomes comfortable, some become complacent and start to take people for granted. It’s sad that it became a norm because the other party will start to lose his/her own identity and happiness coz they kept giving themselves too much to the other person (and not get reciprocated). Once this continues, the relationship will eventually breakdown. So the lesson here is to always communicate so that any issues can be resolved immediately. There has to be a way to always remember why you loved your partner in the first place. The way we do things has to revolve around our love for that other person so that we don’t lose track of the love that you have.
My rating for Marriage Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 out of 5 stars).
