People have been talking about Bird Box like crazy. Some even went to a point of creating videos of themselves walking outside blindfolded!?! So out of my curiosity, I searched for Bird Box in Netflix and watched it at 3AM in the morning.
Bird Box follows Malorie and her two children who are making it through a river blindfolded to escape a supernatural entity which causes people to commit suicide when seen.
It has been quite a long time since I’ve seen a Sandra Bullock movie and boy am I reminded as to how good of an actress she is!!! She portrayed Malorie so well that I felt the same fear and strength while watching her trying to survive the catastrophe. The rest of the characters were good as well. I also liked Sandra Bullock’s pairing with Trevante Rhodes. I will try to catch Trevante’s other movies as I really enjoyed his performance in Bird Box. John Malkovich and Sarah Paulson made their mark despite having limited time in the movie. The kids in the movie were sooo good too!
While Bird Box did not explain how the entity came about, I still find the movie effective. I intend to read the book to understand more. But the movie itself for me is successful. I love how they ended Bird Box on a good note. I liked how the movie showed the different personalities of the characters and how they coped with stress and danger. I liked how the scenes were tied together and how the overall plot made sense. There was suspense all throughout and Bird Box is not predictable as I thought it would be (which is super cool). I do wonder though what will happen to them in the long term and the supernatural entity? Will there be a Bird Box part 2 to continue the story or will they just leave it as is and let us draw our own conclusion?
My main takeaway from Bird Box is for us to have faith. Malorie perfectly embodied that when she decided for her and her kids to all be blindfolded while rafting through the strong waters. It’s technically impossible for them to survive that but she remained faithful that they’d get through it. Faith can indeed move mountains. As they always say, ‘keep the faith’.
My rating for Bird Box: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ (4 out of 5 stars).
