I must admit that I easily get affected by touching scenes in movies. Usually, I will cry for a few minutes or until the scene ends. But this is the first time that I cried continuously throughout the whole movie. If I Stay made me cry, really hard, very very hard.
It came to the point that my mom and I had to stay for 10 minutes after the movie ended. We needed to let our swollen eyes to subside before we go out of the theatre. It’s definitely embarrassing for two ladies to walk around the mall looking like Rudolf the reindeer, right?
Don’t get me wrong. While I felt emotional watching If I Stay, the story made me realise a lot of things. I noticed that I seem to focus on lessons when watching a movie. If I Stay is another movie that makes people reflect about their life and how they react to experiences:
- There is such a thing as unconditional love. Adam (Jamie Blackley) has that love for Mia (Chloe Grace Moetz). Unconditional love doesn’t choose age. Young love can have that kind of passionate and deep love.
- Sacrifice. Denny and Kat did this for their daughter, Mia and son, Teddy. Seeing the movie and understanding why Denny and Kat did the sacrifice is like me watching my mom do this for me. Watching If I Stay made me learn the true meaning of sacrifice. So pure.
- It’s essential to build a happy family life. Denny and Kat built their family and lived their family life full of love, understanding and happiness. It was so refreshing to see that parents can do that. In the real world, all I can see are parents who shouts at their kids, who stops their kids from chasing after their dreams, etc. I wish that parents who watch If I Stay can learn a thing or two on how to build a happy family life.
If I Stay is a film based on the novel by Gayle Forman. Again, just like the movie, The Giver, I ended up finding the book online. I have another book in my increasing reading list 😛
I believe that If I Stay is a great movie which will make us reflect about life. Most importantly, it will make us appreciate our loved ones, our friends, our career and our life. You must watch it while you still can!
My Rating for If I Stay: 5 out of 5 stars
