After watching The Circle, I saw Love is Blind in the recommended section of my Netflix profile. And I thoroughly enjoyed watching The Circle, Netflix do know how to pick the right reality TV shows. For a few weekends, Love is Blind was the TV show I watched and no surprise, I loved it to bits!
Love is Blind is a reality show that follows 15 single men and 15 single women find a match and fall in love without ever seeing each other face-to-face. The focus is on the emotional connection. The show is trying to experiment on the saying that Love is Blind.
After watching both the series and the reunion, it made me think about relationships in general and how we approach things. There are so many lessons we can take away from it. I did and I’ll share in a bit.
I enjoyed that the contestants were not allowed to contact anyone, watch any television or even access the internet. Distraction was out so they can really focus on having quality conversations in the pod. The contestants started with speed dating everyone then they were asked to choose their top guy/girl. Then they get more time with the person if they are in each other’s top list. Conversations in the pod can go on for very long (the longest was 5 hours!). They are given a limited amount of time to get to know each other through the pods and are encouraged to be engaged before they can see each other. Once they see each other, they will be flown into a romantic destination where they will build their relationship further. Then, they get the chance to get their phones back and further work on their relationship in real life setting (with them meeting each other’s family and friends), etc. Then comes the wedding. Will all engaged couples push through?

My thoughts about each couple and what I learned from watching their relationship unfold:
Cameron and Lauren – they are perfectly matched in every single way. They are obviously both mature, ready for marriage, secure in their career and are emotionally stable. Despite being interracial, it worked out for them. I believe it’s mostly because of Cameron. He’s way too sincere and he’s head over heels over Lauren. He’s determined to do everything to make her happy and to prove to her family that he’s going to take care of her forever. The determination and the love which shows even through the television makes it so easy for everyone to root for them! I say they are the right love at the right time. So happy that their marriage is going strong!
Carlton and Diamond – Carlton made a big mistake of treating Diamond with disrespect when her only motive is to listen and make the relationship work. It’s already bad that he proposed without telling her the truth first and the fact that he totally went crazy crazy after he told her he’s bisexual is just disappointing. Diamond is one of the women I really liked in the show. I truly don’t understand the hate she’s getting. The only mistake she did is to fall for Carlton in the show. Anyone who would be dating her in the future will be incredibly lucky and Carlton knows that.. That’s why Carlton tries to make an attempt to rebuild the relationship. It’s too bad he lost his chance.
Damian and Giannina – D & G are my favorite couple in the show (yes, more than Cameron and Lauren). Their love is so passionate and their emotions are so raw. While their fights might look toxic to others, for me, I think it was just normal. Everyone has their own flaws and these two are still getting to know each other. It was right for Damian to say no at the wedding. And it’s so sweet of Giannina to get past that and give her relationship with Damian another chance. They obviously worked on their issues and their relationship is stronger now after the show. They’re still very much in love and I totally teared up when they apologized to each other during the reunion on how they acted when the experiment was ongoing. I ship this two and really rooting for them!
Kenny and Kelly – Kenny is a rare catch! It’s unfortunate that Kelly is still trying to figure herself out. I feel for her when I watched her tear up in the reunion episode. While she said she wasn’t in love, it was clear with her facial reaction that she was. It was pretty obvious Kenny was the guy who Kelly can say is “the guy who got away”. Good for Kenny though as he seemed to have found his match!
Mark and Jessica – the most controversial couple on the show. Jessica definitely got a lot of flak from Amber (fellow cast member) and people on the internet. I feel bad for her but Jessica herself admitted that her actions weren’t right and she was humble enough to take all the hurtful words Amber threw at her. She took all of that and used her airtime to apologize to Amber directly (admitting as well that she took Barnett’s rejection badly). She also apologized to Mark for being unfair to him. I think Mark was so blindly in love with Jessica and I think he still is. Because he even mentioned that he’s still waiting for Jessica to cook Italian beef for him!
Matt and Amber – my least favorite couple from the bunch, haha! I guess I just cannot relate to their personalities. I do think they are incredibly compatible. Glad to see that their marriage is working well, too!
Net, my takeaway is that we need to build genuine relationships with people. We try to take away distractions while we are with them and focus on getting to know each other and building that connection. It’s also important to face all conflicts head on and work on resolving them. On the other hand, if there is no spark, there is no point of pursuing the relationship further.
My rating for Love is Blind: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ (4 out of 5 stars).
