Recently, I setup my newest gadget and it’s a Google Wifi!
I know it’s odd that I would be choosing to own a Google-branded Home Wi-Fi system over an Apple-branded one. However, the Apple AirPort Extreme (which I also own BTW) is a bit outdated and bulky for me.
The reason why I opted to get myself a Google Wifi is that I used up all 1 TB of my data bandwidth a couple of months ago (according to Google broadband which gave me a warning during the 2nd to the last day of the month). I actually could not believe it since I’m the only one using internet at home. How could I even use 1 TB of data? 😲😱 So getting a Google Wifi can give me visibility of my broadband data usage. I somehow suspected that someone unauthorized is using my Home Wifi or there is something wrong with how Globe is tracking it. (I requested for Globe to send me a report and they NEVER did).
Upon opening the box, I’m just glad that it’s not bulky and it fits in my work desktop beside the modem. Moreover, it’s color white which fits my home color theme perfectly!
Setup is also pretty straightforward.
- We first plug-in the outlet.
- Then connect the Google Wifi to our modem via the included ethernet cable
- download Google Wifi app on the App Store.
- Setup Google Wifi in the Google Wifi App.
Here’s Google’s official introductory video for the Google Wifi:
Enjoy a fast signal in every room, on every device. Google Wi-Fi is a new type of connected system that replaces your router for seamless coverage throughout your home.
I’m still discovering the power of this gadget but these are the features I like about Google Wifi:
Design
The fact that it’s color white and it has a minimalist design. Plus, it’s small and fits perfectly with theme of my place, the Google Wifi is the best addition to my little home. The gadget rests well beside my iMac. It’s pretty to look at!
Family Wi-Fi
With Google Wi-Fi, we can schedule pauses to any devices from connecting to the internet. This will be useful if you have kids as you can pause internet on their devices when it’s bedtime.
Network Check
With Google Wi-Fi, I finally let go of the Speedtest app. I can easily conduct an internet speed test and it helps to see how the speed of my internet has improved ever since I got the gadget.
Devices Connected
This is the best feature that I love about Google Wifi. I get to see each and every device connected to the router. It even gives the amount of bandwidth used by each device. Since my internet plan is limited to 1TB per month, I get to control my usage just by having visibility of the amount of internet data I have used. This feature alone is worth the cost of Google Wifi, IMHO.
Priority Device
The companion app helps us to prioritize which device gets priority to access to the internet. This means that the device would have seamless connection even if there are tons of devices connected to the router.
Guest Wi-Fi
I’ve used the Guest Wi-Fi feature and I love it! We get to give our guests access to the internet by providing them with the guest password. No devices on our main network will be shared to them unless we allow them to.
No regrets on buying Google Wifi. It costs USD $132 and with the benefits I’m getting from it, I think it’s well worth it! I’m just a bit worried about security though. I wish to be more aware and in control of my internet usage with Google Wifi from now on 🙂

Yes I have the same problem with my Globe mobile plan as well. They charged me gadget care when I’m only on a SIM plan. Tapos they also charged me for excess data usage which is quite weird considering I know how much I used my mobile data. They can’t produce proof as well that I used that much data.
