At first, Bonifacio is not in my list to watch out for from the movies included in 2014 MMFF entries.
My mom was looking forward to watch Bonifacio so I of course, brought my mom to the movies to watch the movie.
Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo is a historical movie about the life of one of Philippines’ hero, Andres Bonifacio. The twist to the story-telling is that Bonifacio’s life experiences unfolded through the eyes of young students of today.
A lot of people might feel that the inclusion of Daniel Padilla & Jasmine Curtis-Smith (played as students on the modern day) is not necessary. For me, I appreciate it as the story of Andres Bonifacio is easily understandable if seen through the eyes of the youth. I somehow feel that if History class were taught this way, I could have love the subject more, hehe! I also appreciate how the producers of the movie wanted to tap on the youth to understand Philippine history.
There are a lot of aha moments for me after watching Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo:
- The death of Gomburza (Gomez, Burgos & Zamora) priests started it all for Andres Bonifacio to fight for our country’s freedom.
- Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio were friends.
- Emilio Aguinaldo ordered Andres Bonifacio dead – A fellow Filipino killed a hero who led the country to democracy. This is just sad.
- The Revolution is indeed not done – Just look at our government now. While there are a few good people, there are more corrupt & power-hungry officials in Philippine government. Please let’s vote wisely on 2016. We should always remember the heroes who sacrificed their life for our country. Please don’t let an insecure, selfish, power-hungry, money-loving person to lead our beloved country. Please.
Bonifacio is a star-studded movie with Eddie Garcia, Jericho Rosales, Isko Moreno, Vina Morales, Daniel Padilla, Jasmine Curtis-Smith & Robin Padilla. Each and every actor in the movie did their roles justice.
I was really affected with the movie especially thinking about the state of politics here. I wish that people will have renewed love for our country after watching Bonifacio so that we can start putting the right people in government. Or else, we will continue to have this revolution.
My Rating for Bonifacio (Ang Unang Pangulo): 4 out of 5 stars.
