As I was scrolling through my movie list, trying to find another movie to watch, I saw Thirteen, It’s a movie from 2003 but saw that it had multiple awards and it starred familiar actresses. So I gave it a try.
Thirteen is a film about a 13-year old named Tracy who got involved in drugs, petty crimes, sex and other inappropriate acts after she met a popular girl in school named Evie. Tracy’s family especially her mom tried all she can to save her daughter from messing her life further.
Holly Hunter as usual was so great in Thirteen but not to forget the other 2 main stars, Evan Rachel Wood and Nikki Reed. They were all superb in bringing the story to life. I also admire their courage for agreeing to act on this movie because it’s uncomfortable considering the characters in question are underaged and they are doing inappropriate things here.
The movie is not pleasant to watch. How will you enjoy seeing a bunch of 13 year olds stealing goods from stores, having sex with multiple men, taking drugs and so on? However, this happens to some thirteen-year olds in real life.
It’s a good wake up call to parents to always make sure that they know what’s happening to their kids. Once they hang out with bad people, they can easily be influenced. It’s real, it happens no matter how uncomfortable Thirteen is to watch for us.
My rating for Thirteen: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3 out of 5 stars).
