There are only a few Filipino movies that I choose to watch. I actually did not plan to watch The Trial but my mom insisted that we watch it. She probably wanted to because Richard Gomez and Gretchen Barretto are part of the cast.
I didn’t have any problem with it since I like Jessy Mendiola and we all know and agree that John Lloyd Cruz is one of the best actors in the Philippine movie industry.
However, I knew that The Trial is a hardcore drama film. Heavy drama means we’d end up with a heavy heart after watching the movie.
As expected, the movie was indeed too heavy. My heart was just shattered by the amount of drama The Trial gave us. One thing that I really appreciated in this movie is that it had a lot of heart. Seeing how effective every single character was in the movie, it doesn’t take a scientist to figure out that all the stars poured their heart and soul out into making sure that they gave their very best in acting.
The Trial was about a mentally-challenged guy (played by John Lloyd) who was accused of raping his teacher (played by Jessy Mendiola).
I appreciate that the movie wasn’t predictable. We were definitely glued all throughout watching how the story unfolded. I will be very surprised if John Lloyd Cruz do not get any awards for this performance at The Trial.
My Rating for The Trial: 4 out of 5 stars.
